Sitemaps help search engines find all your web pages.  Instead of search engines slowly over time finding your web pages by following links a sitemap gives it all the pages at once.  This does not force search engines to put your pages in their engines but experienced webmasters believe it helps get your pages in the search engines quicker.

To create a sitemap:

Log into your website control panel and click on 'Create Google Sitemap'

Click the 'Start Sitemap Generation' button.

When that button is re-enabled the sitemap is ready.

A link the sitemap is placed in 'robots.txt' which is a file on your website that the search engines all access.

It's also a good idea to give Google the link to your sitemap in Webmaster tools which gives better information on if there were any problems accessing it.

Cannot create sitemap, Error message received:

Server Error in '/' Application.
Unable to automatically create file eo_web.ashx on your application root directory. The file is needed for EO.Web Controls to function. Please manually copy it from EO.Web Controls installation directory to your application's root directory.
etc.
