Webmaster Tools has a host of information that is useful for website owners and is required for Google Base ( Google Products, Froogle) uploads.
Using Google Webmaster Tools you can view:
- What search queries people are using to find your website.
- Who/what links to your website.
- What keywords (topic areas) that google sees on your Website.
- Any errors Google sees on the Website.
Gaining access to the Webmaster Tools is easy. You must have a Google Account. If you have Gmail or adsense you already do.
Go to http://www.google.com/services/
Webmaster tools is accessed by clicking the 'Webmaster Central' link.
Once you are logged into Webmaster Tools you can 'add a site' .
When you add a new website you are taken to a 'Verify Ownership' screen.
You will want to verify your website using the 'Meta Tag' method.
Copy the meta tag they give you... it will look like this:
<meta name="google-site-verification" content="-n-4sashUcEOxfpWDlr3sGRwfseIT6dHXTpdWHEtOJTs" />
and go to your website control panel - General Store Settings...
and enter it in the following field:
Additional Head Tags (Home Page Only):
Save and close the 'General Store Settings' and 'Copy All Settings To Website'
Once that is done you can click the 'Verify' button in Google Webmaster Tools.
Please contact me if you have any problems verifying your website.
