Cannot get home page to look and act how I want...please help.

I've been trying many different things and I am not understanding how the site builder really works...I have used HTML editors in the past and even written a little HTML but I am just missing this all together :( If someone could please help, or if you are real good maybe we can work out a deal for you to build this for us?$??

We really like the look and feel of docndaisy.com ...and like their display of the hot new stuff on the home page and the little wiget in the header. Also their checkout buttons and process seems a little different but we like that too. Also a link to the pre-release stuff would be cool!!!

Any help or reccomondations would be great

So we are just going through our setup checklist for our site and I am unsure how to use "century gothic" font in my header text.

This is kind of our standard that we use on bookmarks and packing slips. If it is possible please let us know how to change it.

Signing up for Amazon Associate ...now or later?

Ok so...maybe i'm jumping the gun but our website is currently being built by Andy (WOB) so it is not "LIVE" however everything is in line and our domain and uploads are ready. My question is...Should I sign up now for the Amazon Associate program? or should I wait until everything is said and done here with my site? Will Amazon actually go to my site to check it out? Is anyone familiar with the Associate program that could help me out.

A few website setup questions

I sent a direct email to WOB but also decided to post here for help.

A few questions for setup of the website I need some help on .....

1. Can I use html code to select randomly those books on the home page in middle area that only have images available?

2. How can I get even lengths of rows on the home page center? I know it looks dependent on the books title length, etc. but just want to know how I can force the rows to be of equal length, if possible?

3. I have my recent feedback showing in the right column. How do I center the most recent feedback in the right column and make it a smaller font?

domain host/web host question

I want to switch my domain host (if that's the right lingo) from Register.com to godaddy.com

I'm assuming that I need to do is request a domain transfer with Godaddy. Do I need to do anything else since you're hosting my site?

I was thinking of putting my website on my packing slips and in my email signatures. I was also thinking of putting a coupon in orders for future orders. People on another board said that all these things are against the rule of AMZ, and will get me kicked off. I can understand no trying to divert a current sale, or no email spam, but I am not so sure the others are prohibited. Can anyone provide me any insight?

Hey folks, I'm missing something...

I go Shopping on eBay and I see tons of Stock Photo's, they can't each be getting permission to use them. I called one of my top secret sources and axed them, they said if I can click and save it, I can use it, I assume they mean if I also bought it from them...

But what if I go to the manufactures site, right click and save? Can I use those? I've tried contacting the webmasters but usually get a spam bounce back.

Thoughts, Opinions please.

How to add books to a separate page?

I've seen a few other sites (i.e. Demi) that have additional pages with only certain books in it. For example, textbooks and rare books. I have a few notoriously worthless books, in Amazon's view, that I would like to offer as bargain books. In fact I bought these guys strictly for that reason. I realized that to the average reader, it might be a good idea to have some popular fiction available. And at a a few dollars (assuming they pay through PayPal), I'd still make some profit, and maybe get some repeat business. Anyway, enough with the theory... How do I create a page then put specific books on it? Will they stay in the other categories also? I don't use AOB, just pulling the listings from AZ if that makes a difference.

On the AOB web site I mark heavier books as NOT to be offered for expedited and/or international shipping. This percolates through appropriately to the Amazon site.

Is it possible to do the same thing at the WOB site?

Andy,

I've had a few months to play around with the website now, and I'm generally very pleased with the way everything works. My question is about Google AdSense. I have tried several times to implement AdSense code, but so far I haven't figured out how to get it to work. I've been able to get an ad to show up in the WYSIWYG editor, however I can't get anything to show up live, even after I hit the "Copy All Changes To Live Website" button. - I've also tried the Google searchbox code. I've been able to get the searchbox to show up live, but the search doesn't return any results when I've tried to use it.

At the moment, I've removed all the Google code from the website. Figured I'd wait to see what you had to say about the matter before I proceed. I'm afraid that my web knowledge is pretty limited, so it's entirely possible that I'm making a newbie mistake somewhere in the process. However, I've been very careful to paste the code into the html portion of the editor exactly as I've copied it from Google. Not sure why it's not working. Any ideas? - Thanks.

My item descriptions are in the land of the missing again. I've searched the "Inventory Items Display Properties" page and everything is checked that is supposed to be. Hmmm. Can you help me with this? Thanks Andy!

Also, the font on my site sometimes cuts of the 'tails' of lower case g's, y's, j's.... Anything that hangs down is missing. Is there a way to change the font of the whole site, or is that something that can be fixed? Thanks again!

What does this mean

I keep getting this, what on earth does it mean? I have not tried to work on two different computers in my house and I get this same message. I have been able to work just fine up until yesterday and now I am consistently getting this message at every turn, on a rare occasion I will get to where I need to, but not often. Am I doing something wrong?

Upgrading to SellerCentral/Marketplace 2.0

I want to upgrad/change to Marketplace 2.0 - Are there any potential conflicts with my WOB site when this changeover occurs?

I am loading my WOB listings directly from Amazon, NOT from AOB.

If I send and list some items as FBA, are there any implications with WOB? Will these still show up my site?

I signed up for a site on Sunday.

It's Friday and my site isn't up. I changed servers, set up AOB, filled out all the forms.

I've send multiple emails to "Andy". No response.

Getting frustrated by the inability to communicate.

How about a phone # somewhere so that I resolve basic communication?

I would like to see this through. Is anyone out there?

New Item not uploading from AOB

I'm trying to get a new item uploaded. I listed it yesterday on AOB but it is still not there. It does not have an ISBN UPC etc. could that be the issue? or a better question might be, What are the minimum criteria to upload from AOB?

Feature Item Builder

I cannot figure out why the featured item builder doesn't work when I select ASIN/ISBN as the choice.

We chose a book in our club meeting that I don't have in my inventory, but I wanted to take advantage of it through the associates program by adding it on my front page as a feature.

However, it's blank? What am I doing wrong. My other features are working fine (the only difference is that I am using SKU)

Hi Andy,

I have a few questions.....

1) I added addiitional web pages to my site. (news & events and store policies) but somehow the link (in the navigation bar) for the Home Page was dropped. Is there a limit to the number of pages? How can I get the Home page link back? I went under User Menu but got more confused with what I saw.

2) I added a small amount of text on my home page above the books but I can't get it to display on my home page. It's probably a matter of a check box but I've been playing with it for 3 days and I can't figure it out.

3) I'm trying to add text to the View Cart Page. Where can I go to do that? i thought I found it at one point but it added text to the header and that didn't work.

4) The condition is show twice under product detail. Is that an AOB glitch or can I turn that off somewhere in the web admin section. For example. Condition: very good very good. It's confusing for the customer. I'm not sure how to change it.

Adding Pictures

I added 2 pictures to my website. One is on the home page (right column) and the second one is on the about us page. It's was fine yesterday. But they have disappeared.

Right Column not showing up

I decided to activate the right column for a text message while I am working on developing the site. The column shows up on my Look and Feel screen but not on the actual website, there is no right column there. My screen width is set to 0. Any other issues that would cause the right column not to show?

Buy it Now and Cart Buttons

Okay, hear me out on this.

I'd like to not have the buy it now buttons on the detail page.

or

Have a separate User page using the Link Builder to pull in the information but not put the buttoms on.

I have tried both of these ideas and I can't get rid of the buttons.

Why? Well in some cases I just want an info page, I trust my few customers would be able to find the buttons somewhere else on my page.

I have a user page set up now with one item on it to work with.

As an alternative, I can set up a User page with cut and pasted info, but why not let the software do it eh?

3p WIDGETS - Nice but cannot display more than one on a page

I have located some (reputable) 3rd party widgets I would like to use on my site, but need to use more than one on a page. This appears to be a common problem as several 3p widgets (from several vendors) appear to have the same problem.

I am having trouble displaying multiple widgets on a page. I can display them individually - each on a separate page - but when I try to display (run the script) multiple widgets on the same page it gets confused and I get differing results, but basically the 2nd one does not display properly.

A 'programmer friend' looked at the 'source code for the page' (as it is being displayed) and said it may/probably have something to do with the <TD (Table Data) commands in use on WOB to keep all the tables/columns lined up...he said he may be able to come up with a workaround...of course, it will take time...

Perhaps there is a different 'page' I could use (bare-bones with no Table Data?) or some other workaround...?

Uploading LoGO

I went to the LOGO creation site, made a few, saved them to my puter, then tried uploading them to my site. The site sez they were successfully uploaded but the do display in the box.:crazy:

I'm using Vista so maybe that is the problem.:w00t:

I was able to work around it by uploading then Copying the file name and then pasting the file name into the box, it uploads now but it seems that it should fill the box automatically...:cool:

Take a look at these guys site, can we do this?

Not Ranked Books, Price Changes and Header Bar

Hey Andy several more questions.

1-Ive noticed that the books with no ranking on amazon appear as being priced 99,999.99
Is there a way to not have these books even appear and at least without the price?

2-If I do price changes on Amazon, do I have to send you a new open listings file?
2b- If I send you that file to my listings get presorted into categories again or do they keep the ones Ive made?

3-I can't find out how to add links to the header bar- "Home, View Cart, About Us"

4-When an item is sold via paypal. Do I need to then manually delete it from amazon?
I think this is a yes.

5- A couple of categories were set up with just one or two items. There is no nothing in them- Can you delete these for me?

My main question is on the categories

(These questions were posed to me in email but I thought they were common enough to post and answer here)

I saw that I can change categories one by one.
Can I create categories or change them in anyway?

This is new functionality that was just added. (version 1.65) On the browse pages if you are logged in there is a link to change the current category. (Obviously this is only useful if I am assigning categories to your inventory.)

The category structure is based on Amazon's (although I have cut down on the depth) and new ones can only be added by me. I am reluctant to do so right now because I want to make sure having everyone changing categories does not cause problems.

Can a book be in more than one category
No... only in one category right now.

Can I have two search book boxes on my page-One which will only search my inventory and another that will do all of amazon?.
1) Under general settings there are 2 settings to that automatically allow Amazon searches. One searches Amazon only if the search of your inventory returns 0 results and the other always appends Amazon results below the regular search results.

Also... any Amazon Associate search box that uses <iframes) can be placed almost anywhere on the site. One client puts it on the search result footer under the following text: 'Not finding what you are looking for? Use the search below to search Amazon'

I've also seen them in the right column and under the categories.

Is there a way under the music section and DVD to search those sections?

This is on my list of future enhancements

Can I make say all the DVD just be in one group and call it say DVD's since I don't have that many?

You can not do that but I can when I assign categories. You would actually need to give me a category name that would go under the main category header 'DVDs'.

Double Listings, Non-Amazon Listings, and Art of Books issue

A few problems:

It seems that a number of my listings with only one copy are appearing multiple times on the website. I've noticed the same problem on a few other sellers' sites. Is this a resolvable issue?

Second, I'm not seeing my listings without ISBNs or ASINs - could something be amiss?

Third, I opened a support ticket with Art of Books about the categories deriving from the ABEBooks Catalog field rather than the zShops browse paths field - but you're sure there's nothing you can do on your end?

I will still monitor and answer questions through email but due to the amount of SPAM causing email both from and to me from being seen I'd prefer these forums were used.
